About Us

 RAC’s Department of Nutrition & Dietetics was established in 2017 as the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics under the Bharathidasan university. Since the inception, the Department has played a vital role in establishing Nutrition as an academic subject and encouraging public interest in the food we eat and its effect on our health. The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics is at the forefront in teaching Food and Nutritional Science related subjects, with a reputation built over for a period of 5 years and consistently enforcing a niche in this arena of study under the roof of the Bharathidasan University.

The curriculum of undergraduate program in Nutrition & Dietetics (N&D) is structured and designed by Board of Studies of the Bharathidasan University. The focus area of intensive coaching in the Department is mainly based on the fundamental scientific principles and their application to ensure to address the concern of the consumers, government and industry. Students are ultimately motivated to demonstrate applied excellence in their specialized area, as well as professionalism, flexibility, the ability to adapt to team work situations, creativity and innovation towards a food product development. This programme is designed to provide intensive practice with regard to dietetic and food industry with ultimate motive of preparing the students as a quality human resource in the vibrant and expanding sector of food, food safety and food security.

Eat Right, Live Better” is the theme of our B.Sc., Nutrition and Dietetics program in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. We, addresses the growing need for degreed food and nutrition professionals to learn best practices for promoting healthy lifestyles to diverse industries, organizations, communities and local populations. These professionals are trained to fill positions at the local, state, national and global levels, including jobs within government health agencies such as social welfare, Family and health welfare Govt. Departments, extension service departments, school systems, non-profit agencies, food systems and food security organizations, environmental education, and community health programs across the state, region, country and globally. Additionally, the Holistic Nutrition and Wellness concentration will prepare students who seek careers in corporate wellness, nutraceuticals, wellness facilities or further education in the health sciences.

The department continues to explore the effect of food in health and quality of life. There are three main thirst areas of study includes public health, the therapeutic basis of nutrition and eating disorders.

The Department has witnessed phenomenal growth from an undergraduate to till date with a strong desire to grow up to the research level in due course of time. Besides being a constituent of the premier institution, the Department is fortunate enough to have planned to sign MOU with various hospitals, institutions and industries for the development of infrastructure, towards strengthening teaching and research facilities

The Department has consistently groomed the students towards achievements which shows the quality of teaching and learning processes of education provided by the institution.

More new students prefer to choose to study Nutrition & Dietetics at RAC Tiruvarur. Our location, facilities, exciting range of job -oriented course and, in particular, our friendly, supportive environment are some of the aspects that make the students to choose this programme every year.

Vision

  • To integrate the students with basic scientific information on food & nutrition and put into practice.
  • To demonstrate the students with beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviours for the professional dietitian/ Nutritionist level of practice.
  • To enable the students to develop and deliver nutritional information, products and services to individuals, groups and populations.
  • To enable the students to strategically apply principles of food/ nutrition management systems in the provision of services to individuals and organizations.
  • To produce in a timely manner graduate who are employable in a variety of dietetics practice settings including rural settings.
  • Be able to provide leadership at all levels of community and governmental agencies in the development, dissemination, and implementation of national nutrition policy.

Mission

Our aim is to improve the level of health of an individual and the community by providing a universal education for our students, make sure they focus on lifelong learning, have self-renewal ability, professional and scientific intellectual competence, and turn into researcher, participant and shareholder, respecting human rights, socially responsible, contemporary and collective useful individuals.
